Membership Types

We have a range of membership options to suit your needs. You can find details of our membership types and which of our publications they include, and join online now on our Join the BHS page

For each of our membership types, there is a choice of having an Online Access or Printed (& online) subscription. Online Access subscriptions are cheaper, or if you choose a Printed (& online) subscription you'll receive printed hard copy issues of the Herpetological Bulletin  as well as getting full online access to all publications included in your chosen subscription package.

A British Herpetological Society membership subscription is valid for 12 months from the date of joining or renewal.

Payments

Subscription payments are made securely via PayPal. You don't need a PayPal account to make payment, there is the option to use your debit or credit card on the PayPal payment screen.

When you join or renew your membership you'll be given the option to make a single payment or to set up a recurring payment. If you choose a single payment you'll need to login each year and manually renew your membership. You'll receive an email reminder before your membership is due to expire. If you choose a recurring payment your payment will automatically be taken each year and you'll receive an email to confirm that your subscription has been renewed.

Renewals

If you select one of the Online Access membership categories, and choose the single payment option you will receive a renewal reminder via email when your subscription period is due to expire. As a Printed (& online) member, you may receive renewal reminders by email and / or by post.

You can renew easily online by logging in to our website and following the onscreen instructions.

If you choose to set up a recurring payment your subscription will be automatically renewed each year, and you'll receive a confirmation email.

Cancellations

If you have set up a recurring payment and wish to cancel your membership, please do so by cancelling your regular payment in your PayPal account. Once this has been done you'll receive a confirmation email. Your membership will run to the end of that years subscription, but will not be renewed.

Contacting You

  • You will receive email prompts to alert you when a new publication has been uploaded to the website.
  • We may also occasionally email you to let you know about upcoming BHS events and news, or to inform you of any changes to our Membership.

Joining by Post

Joining by using our online facility is easiest and gives you instant access to the member's only areas of the site. However, you also have the option to download and print off an applicable paper membership form from the selection below.  If you complete a membership form and post it to us together with relevant payment - for either Online Access or Printed (& online) membership, you will subsequently be posted your Member's section log-in details for the website.

Please remember to include a full postal address on the form to ensure you receive your log in details!  Please do also include a clearly written and valid email address to help us communicate with you effectively in the future. Please note that we do not ever make your details available to any other organisations.

Institutional Members - access options

When you join as an Institutional Member, you'll be given the option to supply IP addresses for computers at your institution which you'd like to have access to download the BHS publications from our website. Anyone accessing the BHS website from the IP addresses you've supplied will automatically have access to download the publications without having to login to our website. Anyone using a computer which has this access will see a message in the bar at the very top of our website which reads "Logged in by IP". To set this up, please email your IP addresses / IP address ranges to  along with the name of your institution and we will set this up for you.
 
Alternatively, access for institutional users can be granted by issuing out the username and password created on joining - in this case, users will need to log on to the website using these credentials and navigate to the relevant publication page.
 
Institutional Members will be given a special link in their welcome email. This link is intended to be retained by the institution access administrators and should not be shared with users - it provides access to viewing your subscription status, renewing your subscription and editing your contact details and login details.
 
The above options are offered irrespective of whether an institution joins online or via a postal application.

Confidentiality

The BHS takes data protection and confidentiality very seriously - we will not make your details available to any third party organisations.
