A conference organised by the European Turtle Alliance will take place at Writtle University College on 11th and 12th of November 2023. Due to loss of habitat, over collection for the pet trade and demand for local bush meat, many rare and beautiful turtles and tortoises that roam the planet face extinction within a decade without human intervention. Dr Peter Praschag, founder of ‘Turtle Island’ conservation project in Austria, will be speaking at the conference this November. Peter will be giving a presentation on some of Turtle Islands projects to conserve tortoise and turtles. The talk is open to hobby conservationists and specialists alike.
Other talks will include medical work from the veterinary world including from specialist veterinarian Dr. Shannon DiRuzzo. Shannon will be sharing some of her work with both captive and wild conservation.
"We are excited to announce one of our best speaker line ups for our sixth conference event. We hope that practical second day being led by some of our speakers will inspire both professionals seeking experience and enthusiasts alike," says Eleanor Tirtasana.
The Tortoise Conference will take place at Writtle University College on the 11th and 12th of November 23 between 10.00 - 4.00pm and includes goodie bags, lunch and access to specialist displays and products. A Saturday evening group meal and optional Sunday workshops are also planned.
